Israeli archaeologists have announced the discovered of a rare Canaanite cemetery dating to 1600 -2200 BC, the first such cemetary discovered in about 20 years. The newly discovered site originally housed approximately 50 bodies from 2000-2200 BC, but was dug up, cleaned out and reused again from 1600-1800 BC.
The burials were of the "shaft tomb" variety, dug straight into the bedrock. were found in the Bayit Vagan neighborhood of Jerusalem as a result of construction work on a new apartment complex.
Authorities in Israel, quotes in The Jerusalem Post, have stated that pottery, weapons, jewelry, ritual offerings, animal bones, and other artifacts.
